Luxury vinyl flooring: Stylish, affordable and waterproof

Wood floors are big this year. Very big, and that's expected to last over 15 years. But wood may not be an option for you because you want to put in a high moisture area like the kitchen, bath, or laundry room. Enter luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), because it has such a realistic, fashionable look we're seeing it in high-end homes where once only natural materials would be considered. It's also waterproof, ultra-durable, and affordable it is being used in every room of the home. As a luxury vinyl flooring retailer, we’d be happy to show you samples.

Not just wood, but also stone and tile

Luxury vinyl simulates natural materials and comes in an almost unlimited number of colors, patterns, and designs. The image layer is taken with 3D photography so it's clear and accurate. Not only will you see the knots and grains of wood species, but also the veining variations of natural stone. Tile colors and patterns will pop.

Embossing adds depth and dimension and textured appearances to the LVF. You can get wire brushed, hand scraped, weathered and distressed looks that feel like the real thing. Flat images are a thing of the past! It comes in matte, gloss, or high-gloss finishes.

This flooring can be cut into planks to mimic hardwood boards, or square, groutable tile-sized pieces. The extra seamlines will add even more realism. Some take it even further by using grout, now considered a design tool, with the tile pieces. While planks are most often associated with hardwood, some will use them for stone mimics; the large format gives it a more continuous look, like that of quarried stone.
LVF is a more advanced version of standard sheet vinyl flooring, resulting in it being thicker. Vinyl thicknesses range from 2 mm (for lower quality) to 8+. If you are planning to install planks and want the feel of hardwood, go with a 10-12 mm. This is a layered product with the top being a clear melamine wear sheet that protects the floor. A mil of 20 is an ideal thickness for this.

This flooring is also very easy to care for, with just a soft broom, mop, and manufacturer-approved cleaner. Installation can be a fast, easy floating floor click-and-lock/loose lay system as well as a glued down. The floating floor can be installed over most subfloors, but they need to be clean, dry, and level.
